MISSION at HIGHLANDS PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
Our
mission work is a reflection of who we are at HPC. We support a variety of
local, national, and international mission relationships throughout the year. Spend some time on this page to learn more about our Mission Highlights and activities. MISSION HIGHLIGHT - ST. CLETUS FOOD PANTRYThe ST. CLETUS FOOD PANTRY WILL BE OUR MISSION HIGH LIGHT AT The Someplace Else Concerts Season Opener on Saturday, October 24, 2009. Be sure to attend the concert and bring non-perishable food items to donate, provide funding to the donation basket, or pick up more information about the St. Cletus Food Pantry and how you can help support their efforts. A portion of the evening's proceeds will support the pantry.
MISSION HIGHLIGHT - BUDDY'S PLACE
One
day, HPC member Mike Rohloff noticed a brochure from Buddy's Place
hanging on our bulletin board in Fellowship Hall. He wondered if they
might enjoy some of HPC's Gary Wibracht's delicious home made pizza at
their meetings...And the pizza project began! Those
of you in church on Palm Sunday heard the founder of Buddy's Place give
a brief "Minute for Mission" presentation. Buddy's Place meets once a
month at LaGrange Hospital with the purpose of giving families who have
lost a loved one a chance to move through the grieving process with
others in the same situation. This is especially helpful for children
who have lost a parent or sibling....they can talk with others who are
in their age group and know that they are not alone.
HPC's pizzas have been greatly appreciated and warmly welcomed by the
folks at Buddy's Place, and we believe it's a project worth continuing.
So hop on the pizza-making train and join us for a good time and a good
cause! Contact Mike Rohloff or The Scheppler's if you'd like to help out.

MISSION HIGHLIGHT - MENDENHALL MINISTRIES On God's Side of the Tracks Most
southern towns historically have often had one thing in common: a set
of railroad tracks dividing them, economically and racially. There
often was a spiritual separation, too. The subtle but strong message
was that one side of town was good and the other bad.
Jesus
Christ has never let such artificial barriers stop Him. For Him, there
has never been a good or bad side of the tracks. Just people in need of
His saving love. Mendenhall, Mississippi, is no exception. Today, and
for the last 35 years, the Mendenhall Bible Church (MBC) and its outreach arm, The Mendenhall Ministries (TMM),
have crossed artificial economic, spiritual, and racial barriers in
rural Mississippi with a message of hope rooted in biblical
reconciliation and personal responsibility.
The Mendenhall Ministries (TMM) is a holistic church organization in a small rural community. In addition to their normal activities through Mendenhall Bible Church, outreach is provided to the community with programs supporting a preschool and an elementary school. TMM
is also involved in a housing program which supports elderly citizens
and those with limited income, helping them maintain adequate living
environments.
Our relationship with Mendenhall goes back for years through the hard work and dedication of HPC's Christian Education Director, Margaret Rhine. Members of Highlands Presbyterian Church
have responded to the many needs that followed the destruction of
Hurricane Katrina through frequent mission trips to help rebuild the
community. Highlands Youth and Adult groups, along with friends of
Mendenhall from surrounding communities, also participate in a summer
mission trip on an annual basis. For
more information about how you can help support The Mendenhall
Ministries or become a part of the summer trip initiative, please
contact Margaret Rhine, DCE, at (708) 246-1911. For more information regarding The Mendenhall Ministries and Mendenhall Bible Church, please visit:

MISSION HIGHLIGHT - CROP WALK
On October 19th, members from Highlands Presbyterian Church
participated in the Annual CROP Hunger Walk. Over $500 was raised to
help feed the hungry on both a local and international level. The CROP
Hunger Walk is neighbors walking together to take a stand against
hunger in our world. Together we raise awareness and funds for
international relief and development, as well as local hunger-fighting.
HPC participates every year in this ambitious effort to fight hunger. For more information, or to get involved in CROP, visit www.churchworldservice.org.

peoples of the earth in the language they understand best. For more inf ormation about Wycliffe, visit wycliffe.org.
